The Dalibo team has announced the stable release of PostgreSQL Migrator 1.0, a free and open-source tool built to move databases from Oracle and MySQL/MariaDB onto PostgreSQL. Announced from Paris on 7 September 2026, the release marks the project's first stable milestone after an extended development period.

Key capabilities delivered in this release:

  • Easy installation: distributed as a pure Go binary with zero proprietary dependencies, requiring no external runtime stack.
  • Fast, offline inspection: the source catalog is extracted once, letting developers iterate on conversion entirely offline.
  • Complexity scoring: migration projects can be assessed and compared by difficulty before work begins.
  • Interactive web UI: browse original and converted catalogs, search objects, and surface migration blockers.
  • Schema and data conversion: datatypes and SQL expressions are converted, including column-to-boolean transformations.
  • Code analysis and transpilation: SQL, PL/SQL, and routines are analyzed and transpiled via the companion transqlate tool.
  • High-performance data copy: streamed bulk COPY into PostgreSQL (or to files/pipes) with low memory usage and, in Dalibo's tests, significantly higher throughput than traditional tools.
  • Hackable and configurable: reliable JSON catalog data, TOML configuration, and templating allow fine-tuning.
  • Supported sources: migration paths include Oracle Database 11g.

For developers, the practical appeal is the offline workflow: expensive catalog extraction happens once, and conversion iterations run locally against JSON and TOML artifacts, which pairs well with version control and CI. Because the tool is a single Go binary, it drops into existing pipelines without dependency wrangling, and transqlate keeps SQL and PL/SQL analysis scriptable. Streaming COPY also matters at scale, where data movement is often the slowest phase of a migration. The stable 1.0 label signals the team now considers the interface ready for production use.
