Dalibo has released PostgreSQL Anonymizer 3.2, an extension designed to hide or replace personally identifiable information (PII) and commercially sensitive data in PostgreSQL databases. The new version introduces a set of faster pseudonymization filters, enhancing the extension's already broad toolkit for privacy protection.

PostgreSQL Anonymizer supports six masking strategies: Dynamic Masking, Static Masking, Replica Masking, Backup Masking, Masking Views, and Masking Data Wrappers. These strategies are complemented by masking functions that include substitution, randomization, faking, pseudonymization, partial scrambling, shuffling, noise addition, and generalization.

The key updates in version 3.2 include:

  • New fast pseudonymization filters that improve performance when applying pseudonymization to large datasets.
  • Enhanced masking functions that maintain data consistency while speeding up the masking process.
  • Continued support for installation via Debian and RPM packages, an Ansible role, and a Docker image, with compatibility across major DBaaS platforms such as Alibaba Cloud, Crunchy Bridge, Google Cloud SQL, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure Database, Neon, and Yandex.

For developers, the performance boost in pseudonymization is crucial because it reduces the overhead of masking operations in production environments. When dealing with large-scale data transformations—whether for testing, analytics, or compliance—faster filters translate into lower latency and reduced impact on database resources. This update allows teams to implement privacy-preserving measures more efficiently, without sacrificing data usability.

The extension's ability to work across multiple deployment scenarios (on-premises, cloud, and hybrid) makes it a flexible solution for organizations that need to enforce data protection policies consistently. With PostgreSQL Anonymizer 3.2, Dalibo continues to address the growing demand for robust, high-performance data anonymization tools.
