Autobase 2.11 is a significant release for PostgreSQL users, fulfilling a two-year effort to evolve the Autobase Console from a simple deployment UI into a comprehensive platform for managing the entire cluster lifecycle. With this update, the remaining major features—scaling, upgrades, backups, and point-in-time recovery—are now available directly from the Platform UI.
Highlights include:
Scaling (read replicas): Scale PostgreSQL read capacity directly from the UI by specifying the desired number of cluster nodes. Autobase automatically provisions additional replicas for cloud deployments, creating the required servers and infrastructure. For on-premises clusters (bare-metal or virtual machines), you can also add replicas as your workload grows.
Upgrades: Support for both minor upgrades within the current PostgreSQL major version and major-version upgrades. Minor upgrades are performed sequentially, one replica at a time, minimizing downtime. Major version upgrades are now streamlined through the UI, though details of the workflow are outlined in the release notes.
Backups and PITR: Point-in-time recovery can be configured and managed from the Platform UI, complementing backup automation already available.
UI completion: The Console now serves as a single control plane for the entire cluster lifecycle, removing the need to switch between multiple tools for operational tasks.
For developers, this means reduced operational overhead and a more unified experience. The ability to elastically scale read replicas from the UI is particularly valuable for applications with variable read loads. The streamlined upgrade process reduces risk during critical maintenance windows. By consolidating lifecycle management into the Autobase Platform, teams can focus on building features rather than juggling infrastructure tasks.
